Bacteriostatic Water

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, allowing a single vial to be entered several times during a laboratory session. It is the most common diluent used to reconstitute lyophilised peptide research materials.

This 10 ml presentation suits laboratories reconstituting several vials or preparing multiple aliquots from one diluent source. Labelling the vial with the date of first entry is good laboratory practice for tracking its in-use period. Store upright at 20–25 °C, protect from freezing and direct light, and wipe the stopper with an alcohol swab before every entry.
